Eye Examinations
This involves a thorough examination of the structure of the eye, muscle co-ordination as well as determination of focal length. Tests include refraction, detection of pathology, visual field analysis, and intra ocular pressure measurement. The duration of an examination is usually between 20 and 30 minutes.
All optometrists at Bater opticians are accredited to provide examinations under the PEARS (Primary eye care acute referral scheme) and WECE(Welsh eye care examination) schemes introduced by the Welsh Assembly in 2003. These eye examinations may include extra tests as the optometrist feel appropriate or dependant on the patient's symptoms or GP referral. (For more information please contact our practice).
LVA (Low vision assessment) This scheme introduced by the Welsh Assembly in 2004 allows the optometrist to prescribe for those patients who are partially sighted any low visual aids that they feel may appropriate or beneficial.
Diabetic surveillance is now undertaken through the DRSS (Diabetic retinal screening service) but as a diabetic it is advised that you visit your optometrist once a year for an eye examination.
Our Morriston branch is a DVLA registered optometric practice that undertakes visual field analysis for driving licences.
